What Is Windblow Removal?

Windblow removal refers to the process of managing and removing trees or vegetation that have been uprooted or significantly damaged by strong winds or storms.

Fallen trees or “windblow” can be awkward and dangerous to deal with and takes careful planning, suitable machinery and competent operators to clear a site. Our team can clear awkward windblow sites with skill and precision, as well as providing reinstatement works to restore the site to full functionality.

About The Site / Project

Storm Awen was responsible for a lot of damage to many woodlands throughout the UK. 

Go Ape at Grizedale (The Lake District, Cumbria) was hit hard, with winds blowing over a significant amount of large Douglas fir trees that were part of the GoApe infrastructure for the aerial walkways and zip wires. Treeclear was engaged to clear up the mess that storm Awen had left behind…

How Did Treeclear UK Help?

As well as providing prompt windblow removal, we also completed reinstating works too.

The detailed brief and work completed included:

• Closed off the footpath and put a diversion in place.
• Created a safe access for machines and route for extracting all the material.
• Striped all the metalwork off the fallen trees, remove from site and put in skips.
• Cut sound into lengths and removed from site using a tracked dumper.
• Removed all damaged and contaminated timber and remove off site.
• Mulched all the brash and remaining residue on the site.
• Flipped all the uprooted stumps, make safe, tidy and blend into the area.
• Regraded the whole area leaving it neat and tidy.
• Removed all the access that we installed and return to previous state.
• Regraded and put new stone down on 250m of footpath.

Machinery Used For Project

• 2 x forestry spec Takeuchi tb2150’s (one with a grapple saw capable of cutting 650mm) 
• 1 x Takeuchi tb290 with grapple, buckets and land rake.
• 1 x Takeuchi tb290 with grapple for stacking timber.
• 1 x Yanmar 4 ton tracked dumper.
• Hand cutter with chainsaws for dealing with the big stuff (up to 1.2m in diameter).
