Scrub clearance & control – What does it involve?

Scrub clearance and control is a crucial process for managing overgrown land, preparing areas for specific uses, and restoring habitats.

Our highly-experienced team at TreeClear UK follow a comprehensive approach that ensures the effective removal of unwanted scrub while prioritising environmental care and using low-impact control methods and industry-leading machinery.

Key services to achieve your desirable outcome include:

  • Low-impact flailing
  • Low-impact mulching
  • Low-impact mowing

Scrub Clearance: This may be required where land has been severely neglected and causing significant risk to the environment or land use. Moreover, scrub clearance may be required for land reclamation to restore the available land for growing crops and grazing, for example.

Scrub Control: Scrub control is used as part of on-going vegetation management and is paramount for keeping on top of scrubs as a preventative approach. After initial scrub clearance, on-going scrub control and maintenance may be required to prevent the re-encroachment of shrubs and unwanted vegetation.

Why is scrub clearance and control important?

Whether you require scrub clearance or control, our dedicated and modern-day environmental land clearance services are here to help you achieve your desired outcome. There are a number of reasons that clients enquire about scrub control services. Reclaiming overgrown land is often one of the most prominent to restore land usability. Further reasons include:

Encouraging Biodiversity

Our scrub services (control or clearance) help to prevent overgrowth on your land which otherwise interferes with the development of native plants and wildlife. While it’s true that some scrub are essential for developing wildlife, uncontrolled or excessive scrub can do the exact opposite. Moreover, scrub control also helps to prevent invasive species from dominating and creates habitats for diverse species to flourish. TreeClear UK is committed to creating a balance between land management & ecological health.

Land Preparation

Whether you’re preparing your land for new use or you’ve neglected your land and want to restore it for farming, construction or conservation projects, scrub control and clearance can assist massively. Our services are often the first step in land preparation as we use industry-leading and low-impact machinery to clear obstacles for productive construction and development. This is especially important in areas such as parks, estates, or utility corridors where safe and easy access is crucial.

Fire Risk Reduction

Overgrown scrubs and vegetation if neglected can quickly become a significant fire hazard. TreeClear UK provides services that are centred around removing dense scrub that poses a fire hazard, especially in dry conditions. Therefore, scrub control is essential for mitigating these risks and ensuring the safety of both natural landscapes and nearby properties.

I have used TreeClear UK as contractors for the last nine years and have always been really impressed with their service and approach to each job. Anthony Lambert and his team bring extensive knowledge and experience that is applied with diligence to difficult work sites. The use of their low ground pressure tracked machines on peat mires leave very little impact on sensitive vegetation. Their bespoke mulching equipment has efficiently dealt with really dense stands of rhododendron and regenerated Sitka spruce, reducing material to a manageable chip mat. Our landowners and other clients have been extremely pleased with the end result. I would always recommend TreeClear UK for clearance work on sensitive tree/shrub clearance sites.

Treeclear removed trees, scrub and rhododendron during the winters of 2021/22 and 2022/23 at on of our National Nature Reserves. They delivered an excellent service; competent, practical and efficient on a complex and hazardous site. Their understanding of the difficulties in working on a raised bog and their expert use of specialist equipment was integral to the successful delivery of the project which has allowed us to restore key parts of the habitat to benefit biodiversity and help reduce CO2 emissions.
